Pet はペット。だれでも知ってる英語。もしかしたら、むしろ日本語を知らない人も多いかもしれないですね。ペットは日本語だと愛玩動物です。今日はペットのいろいろを共有したいと思います。（いろいろなペットではなくて、Pet のいろいろです！）
PET のいろいろ
1. 名詞の場合 Noun (Animal):
- Meaning: A domesticated animal kept for companionship or pleasure.
- Example: “I have a pet cat named Whiskers.”
- Japanese: 「ペットとしてウィスカーズという名前の猫を飼っています。」
2. 名詞の場合その２ Noun (Person Treated with Special Affection):
- Meaning: A person who is treated with special affection or favoritism.
- Example: “She is the teacher’s pet.”
- Japanese: 「彼女は先生のお気に入りです。」「先生は彼女をひいきしています。」
3. 名詞の場合その３ Noun (Minor Annoyance or Obsession):
- Meaning: A minor annoyance or obsession, often referred to as “pet peeve.”
- Example: “Loud chewing is my biggest pet peeve.”
- Japanese: 「大きな音を出しての咀嚼は私の一番嫌なことです。」「くちゃくちゃ音を立てて食べるのは本当にむかつきます。」
4. 動詞の場合 Verb (To Stroke or Caress):
- Meaning: To touch an animal or person gently and affectionately.
- Example: “She loves to pet her dog.”
- Japanese: 「彼女は愛犬をなでるのが好きです。」
5. 動詞の場合その２ Verb (To Pamper or Spoil):
- Meaning: To treat someone very indulgently or give them special treatment.
- Example: “He pets his grandchildren with sweets.”
- Japanese: 「彼は孫たちにお菓子を与えて甘やかします。」
6. 形容詞の場合 Adjective (Favorite or Cherished):
- Meaning: Describing something or someone that is particularly cherished or preferred.
- Example: “That’s his pet project.”
- Japanese: 「それは彼の特別なプロジェクトです。」
正直 Pet にこんなに多くの意味があるとは知りませんでした。今日も新たな発見があって嬉しいです。
