Buhari laments brain drain of doctors from Nigeria, other West African countries – “The flight of doctors and nurses to other continents has resulted in a significant gap between the required treatments for NCDs and the available treatments and care.” Nigeria’s President, Muhamamdu Buhari, has lamented the brain drain the country’s health sector, saying the exodus of doctors and nurses from West African countries was detrimental to the health needs of citizens. Don’t call it exodus, please – Some say the so-called ‘brain-drain’ is happening because India is still mired in poverty and inequality. This is simply a wrong cause-effect attribution – The social media is flooded with stories of Parag Agrawal, an India-born techie who has replaced Jack Dorsey as the new CEO of Twitter! And once again, the denizens found a reason to spark a debate on the exodus of Indian talent or so-called ‘brain-drain’. However, calling it an exodus is not only naïve, but factually incorrect.
