insane はもともと精神障害の、という意味ですが話し言葉では「正気ではない」という意味で使われます。ネイティブの方々の間では普通に使っている印象です。ただ私の上司が職場でよく使うので💦今回とりあげてみようと思いました。insane の意味とニュアンスと例文を確認してみたいと思います。

やはり Chat GPT の説明はわかりやすいです。はて、日本語にすると何がしっくりきますかね。「すごい！やばい！ありえない！」辺りになってしまいます。この手の感嘆表現は日本語ではかなり限定的なので、日本語訳がつまらないことになりますね。感情を表に出さない日本人らしさのせいでしょうか。

別の味方をすると、日本人が「すごい！やばい！ありえない！」と英語で言いたい場合には注意して表現のバリエーションを増やしておきたいものです。かくいう私も咄嗟に出てくるのは “Great!” “Amazing!” “Incredible!”などの平平凡凡な単語になりがちですので、私と話していても「つまらないな」と思われているかもしれません。このメッセージを自らへの戒めとしたいと思います。笑）
