カラオケはお好きですか？私は大変苦手です。（すみません）歌が嫌いなのではなく、あの場所が嫌いと言ったほうが正確かもしれません。世の中には歌の上手い方が本当に大勢いらっしゃって、たくさんの感動をいただきます。歌はすばらしいですね。皆さんは十八番（おはこ）がありますか。

今日の単語は go-to-songsでまさに十八番。得意な歌、という意味ですね。あるいは、お気に入りの歌、よく聞く歌、という意味にもなります。

【いきなり余談】なぜ十八番はおはこ？ナゼ得意という意味？

英語の前に日本語でつまづきそう。なぜ得意なことを十八番というのか？誰もが一度は説明を聞いたことがあると思いますが、私も忘れそうになっていたのでおさらいしますと、

江戸歌舞伎の家系・市川家の話が由来とされる説が最も有名。1832年、七代目市川團十郎が、市川家が得意とする18つの演目を「歌舞伎十八番」と呼んだ。それらの台本を箱に入れて大切に保管したことから、「十八番」＝「おはこ」という言葉ができたのだそう。

便利な Go-to

go-to-songs は歌についてですが、go-to はもっと様々な場面で使えます。
